We understand that healing and growth begin with safety, empathy, and trust. Our trauma-informed approach recognizes the impact of past and present experiences on an individual’s ability to thrive — whether through career coaching, digital literacy for women, or entrepreneurship training. We ensure that every interaction, workshop, and program we offer is grounded in empathy, empowerment, and justice impacted support.
What It Means to Be Trauma-Informed
Being trauma-informed means that we don’t ask, “What’s wrong with you?” — we ask, “How can we support your healing?”
Our team fosters environments that are:
Safe: Emotionally, physically, and psychologically secure for all participants.
Empowering: Encouraging self-agency, voice, and choice in every aspect of participation, especially in relation to women empowerment.
Collaborative: Building trust through transparency, respect, and mutual learning.
Culturally Responsive: Recognizing and honoring the diverse experiences and identities of women & gender expansive professionals and families in our communities.

Healing Through Empowerment
Our programs integrate trauma-informed practices into career coaching, digital literacy for women, entrepreneurship training, and wellness, creating spaces where women and gender expansive people, along with their families, can rebuild confidence and rediscover purpose. Through storytelling, mindfulness, and community connection, participants learn to transform pain into power, turning lived experience into leadership.
Why It Matters
Women and gender expansive people, particularly those impacted by injustice, poverty, or incarceration, often carry unspoken trauma that affects every area of life. By embedding trauma-informed principles into everything we do, we ensure that healing is not an afterthought but the foundation of empowerment, especially for those seeking justice impacted support.

Between 1980 and 2022, the number of incarcerated women increased by more than 585%, rising from a total of 26,326 in 1980 to 180,684 in 2022. While 2020 saw a substantial downsizing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this trend reversed with an 18% increase in 2022, according to The Sentencing Project.
In our own Brooklyn neighborhoods, already impacted by systemic disinvestment, women and gender expansive people return to communities lacking stable housing, livable wage employment, and mental health care. Without these critical supports, the cycle of recidivism often repeats, not for lack of will, but for lack of access to justice impacted support.
We center our work on healing, purpose, and sustainable growth. Through gender-responsive reentry support, trauma-informed mentorship, and career coaching, as well as digital literacy for women, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship training, we aim to shift life trajectories for women and their families. Every life renewed radiates through homes, blocks, and neighborhoods, transforming silence into agency and incarceration into restoration.
DONATE

At Woman Unsilenced, we believe our youth are the innovators, thinkers, and changemakers of today. Our pre-apprenticeship program creates opportunities for young people to discover their purpose, develop digital literacy for women, and enhance leadership skills, all while preparing for careers that build both confidence and community impact through effective career coaching.
Empowering the Next Generation
Through our Jr. Leadership Program and Ready TECH Hire Youth Pre-apprenticeship, students ages 16–22 gain access to interactive learning experiences that blend technology, leadership, and personal growth. We introduce them to tools that open doors — from IBM SkillsBuild’s digital credentialing and data literacy badges to real-world internships and mentorship opportunities, including justice impacted support for those facing barriers.
What We Teach
Our youth programs focus on four essential pillars:
Leadership & Goal Setting: Cultivating confidence, teamwork, and a growth mindset.
Digital Literacy: Equipping students with entry-level tech skills for the digital economy, particularly emphasizing digital literacy for women.
Entrepreneurship: Inspiring innovation, creativity, and ownership of their ideas through entrepreneurship training.
Financial Empowerment: Building early awareness of money management and generational wealth.

Our Impact
Each cohort of young leaders emerges with stronger voices, sharper skills, and a deeper sense of purpose. Through programs focused on career coaching and entrepreneurship training, many go on to internships, college programs, and leadership opportunities. These experiences serve as powerful examples of women empowerment in action, fostering digital literacy for women and providing justice impacted support to those in need.
